Hi,

I'm changing the front bushings on my 81 malibu. The lower front bushing shell was flared. The service manual says to use special tool J-something after installing to flare the bushing. The instructions that came with the kit doesn't say anything about it. Is it necessary to flare the shell, and if so any ideas on an easy way to do it without that tool?

Thanks

The simple answer is no, you won't need to flare the shell and it won't require you to use the special flaring tool.  Just be cautious when pressing out the old bushing and pressing ours in, be sure to brace the arm so that you do not damage it or crush the ends.  You can use a hydralic press during this step.  If you have any other questions feel free to ask away Smiley
